Dorothy Ellen Purdy, 94, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at Fort Hudson Nursing Home.

Born on July 13, 1923 in Glens falls, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Sarah (Mason) Brown.

She was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School and of Mildred Elley Secretarial School in Albany.

On April 26, 1947 Dorothy married Kenneth H. Purdy in Hudson Falls. They were married for 64 years until his passing in 2011.

For many years Dorothy was a secretary at Maple St. Elementary School in Hudson Falls. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hudson Falls.

Dorothy enjoyed knitting, sewing, gardening, camping and taking trips around the USA.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Dorothy was predeceased by her son, Bruce M. Purdy.

Left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Marica Dwyer and her companion, David Pronto; her sons, Kenneth R. Purdy and his wife, Marie and Thomas A. Purdy; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted following calling hours at 1pm at the funeral home with Rev. Patti Girard, officiating.

Burial will follow the funeral service at Morningside Cemetery, Hartford.

Memorial donations in Dorothy’s memory can be made to the Fort Hudson Nursing Home, 319 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828.

The family wishes to thank the Fort Hudson Nursing Home staff and day care staff for the 6 years of care they gave Dorothy.
