Elmer Edward Gifford, 87, passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2019, at Glens Falls Hospital.
Born on August 20, 1931, in Hudson Falls, he was the son of the late Elmer and Madeline (Smith) Gifford.
Elmer served in the United States Army from 1951 till 1954 in Korea. Following his return from Korea he served in the Honor Guard in Washington D.C. He had a passion for serving in the Army and earned the title of Sergeant.
On June 2, 1954, Elmer married Dorothy Rabideau at St. James Catholic Church in Cadyville, NY by the Rev. Joseph Quinn.
Elmer was a communicant of the St. Michael’s Church in South Glens Falls for 55 years. He was a member of the Parish Council and a founding member of Knights of Columbus Council 11160 Rev. Robert A. Nugent. Elmer worked for Finch Pruyn Heating and Air Conditioning for 34 years in installation. In recent years he worked at F.W. Webb for 18 years as a HVAC Estimator.
He enjoyed playing golf, bowling, hunting, fishing, camping, wood working, reading, softball and especially spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Elmer was predeceased by his granddaughter, Bethany Petteys; his siblings, Jean (Ed) Brodie, Patricia Bruce and James Gifford; his brother-in-law, Earl Mattison.
Left to cherish his memory includes his wife of 64 years, Dorothy; his children, Daniel Gifford of Moreau, Linda Petteys and her husband, Michael of Gansevoort, Jon Gifford and his wife, Linda of Chester, NY; his grandchildren, Sara Buenaventura and her husband, Jason, Erin Lawrence and her husband, Ryan; his great-grandchildren, Clara, Luke, Adele, Ethan and Olive; his sister, Joyce Mattison; his brother-in-law, Clifford Bruce; his sister-in-law, Anne Gifford; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Knights of Columbus are requested to meet at the funeral home at 5pm on Monday, January 21, 2019.
A Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10am on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at St. Michael’s Church, 80 Saratoga Ave., South Glens Falls, NY 12803, with the Rev. Guy A. Childs, officiating.
Rite of Committal will follow at 2pm at be at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY.
