Obituary for Frederick Edward "Ted" Moon

Moreau

Frederick Edward “Ted” Moon, 97, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was the son of the late Edward and Julia (Golden) Moon. Born on Flag Day, June 14, 1921 in Glens Falls. He always claimed, “They put the flags out the day I was born”.

Ted graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1940. He was employed by Finch Pruyn in 1941 and left to serve in the United States Naval Air Corp. during WWII as a Class A Aviation Machinist. Upon his return from the Navy, Ted went back to work at Finch Pruyn in 1946. He was a Class A Machinist Supervisor and retired after 44 years of loyal service.

Ted married the girl next door, Evelyn Tefft on August 25, 1946 at St. Mary’s Church, Glens Falls. They were married for 65 wonderful years until Evelyn’s passing in 2011.

Ted was an avid New York Yankee’s fan, and on his 80th birthday, the entire family treated him to his 1st live Yankee game at Yankee Stadium. He loved sports and going to all his grandchildren’s games. Ted loved to sing. He sang “Paper Doll” to Evelyn and always lead the Happy Birthday song on everyone’s birthday. Ted never missed a family event which gave him much joy. One of Ted’s favorite past times was watching TV. He loved the Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and any law show. We always thought he should have been a lawyer.

He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Ted was quiet, reserved, honest and sincere with quite a sense of humor, which we will all miss so much. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for his family. On a moment’s notice, he’d be there. We are all truly blessed to have had him in our lives.

In addition to his parents and wife, Ted was predeceased by his infant grandson, Michael Doherty; his sister, Mary Bowen; his brothers-in-law, Bruce Bowen, Donald Newcomb, Donald Moon and Marc Maranville; his sisters-in-law, Sylvia Newcomb and Jean Moon.

Left to cherish Ted’s memory include his children, Janet Tudor of Raleigh, NC, Lynda Doherty (Bill Lane) of Saratoga; his grandchildren, Amy Doherty Weed (Chris), Tricia Doherty Weed (Jason), Todd Doherty, Chandra Tudor Green (Jason), Sarah Tudor Thompson (Jody); his sister, Jane “Jenny” Maranville; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call from 5 to 7pm on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main Street, South Glens Falls NY 12803.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11am on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at St. Michael’s Church, 80 Saratoga Ave., South Glens Falls, NY 12803 with the Rev. Guy A. Childs, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will be conducted at 2pm following the Funeral Mass at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY.

Our deepest appreciation goes to the faithful service of caregiver, Christy Moran, who cared for Ted during the final years of his life. Especially to Lynda and Bill who provided endless hours of support, assistance and care.
