Obituary for James "Jim" Dyer
James (Jim) Albert Dyer, 83, of South Glens Falls, passed away at the Washington Center in Argyle, NY on April 29, 2019.
Jim was born on January 2, 1936 in Gansevoort, NY to Paul and Marjorie Miller Dyer.
Following graduation from South Glens Falls Sr. High School in 1953, Jim spent four years (1954-1958) in the U.S. Navy.
He married the love of his life, Ellen Munger, in 1960 and they had five children. In 1961 Jim joined the NY State Police force. During his 20-year tenure with the State Police he was based in Malone, Leeds, Saratoga and South Glens Falls. He served as a Trooper, BCI investigator, and Sergeant. During his employment with the state police, Jim earned an associate degree in Criminal Justice from Adirondack Community College. Following his retirement in 1981, Jim launched S.O.S. Janitorial Service, serving many businesses in the North Country for over 10 years. He also served as Moreau Town Justice in the mid-1980’s. Not one to rest on his laurels, Jim again came out of retirement to serve as Terminal Manager for the Fort Edward Express Trucking Company for 8 years, and ended his career working at Velocity Express.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Ellen, brothers Paul and Richard, sister Marjorie, sister-in law, Pat Dyer and brother-in-law Joe Plott.
Jim is survived by his five children - Margaret Tripp and husband Dean of Argyle, NY, Claudia Hargis-Grover of Hudson Falls, NY, Dr. Marcia Shobe and husband Andrew of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Paul Dyer and wife Barbara of Syracuse, NY, and Jim Dyer II of South Glens Falls, NY; brother David and wife Caryl, sisters-in-law Claudia Kobor and Mary Lou Munger, five grandchildren (DJ and Adam Tripp, Jennifer Hargis, and Katie and Laura Grover); four great-grandchildren and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Jim will be greatly missed by his family, who knew him as a loving husband, father, and son. He was a dedicated state servant, an extremely hard worker and known for his sardonic wit.
Jim requested no funeral service but instead for family to remember that he loved them all dearly.
