Obituary

Stony Creek

John F. Cronkhite, 78, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at his home.

Born in Fort Edward on November 4, 1940, he was the son of the late John and Helen (Simmons) Cronkhite.

The day after he graduated Fort Edward High School in 1958, he enlisted in the United States Navy as an electronics technician and proudly served his country aboard the USS Chilton during the Bay of Pigs era. Once John was discharged, he gained employment locally in manufacturing and the paper industries.

He was a history buff, walking encyclopedia, had an arsenal of jokes and enjoyed storytelling at all social gatherings and family reunions. He devoted a lot of his time to researching & recording the family lineage as he was proud of his heritage and willing to pass down his findings.

He was a life time member of The Veterans of Foreign War & The American Legion - William J. Varney Post 862 in Lake Luzerne, a member of the Honor Guard, and was a former member of the Satterlee Hose Company in Fort Edward.

Along with his parents, John is predeceased by his sister, Helen “Ruthie” Cronkhite and infant son, John Raymond Cronkhite.

Unfortunately we only had the pleasure of making John's acquaintance on a couple of occasions but enjoyed both exchanges immensely. We are grateful for his dedication to his Nation, family and community. God Bless John and the Cronkhite Family in this time of celebrating John's life.
