Obituary for Marlyn Lois Fries (Janes)

QUEENSBURY

Marlyn L. (Janes) Fries, 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 2, 2019, into the arms of her Lord and her loving and devoted husband.

Born February 11, 1933 in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late George and Blanche (Williams) Janes.

Marlyn married Ervin Fries on September 6, 1952, in Scranton, and they spent nearly 64 years together until his passing in 2016.

Marlyn was the organist in her church and enjoyed playing the piano, knitting, crocheting, crossword puzzles and game shows. She was also the family arm wrestling champion.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Marlyn is predeceased by her brothers; Darwin Janes, Harold Janes, Clayton Janes, and Robert Janes, her sister Blanche Ryder, and her son-in-law Jeffrey Wells.

Left to cherish her memory are her six daughters; Linda VanNorman and Kristen Cecere, both of Fort Collins, CO, Susan Wells of Lake Placid, Lois Stark (Jeff) of Argyle, Shirley Updike (David) of Flower Mound, TX, and Carrie Cutter (Gary) of Queensbury, thirteen grandchildren; Shannon Nealon (Bob), Andrew VanNorman, Aaron Wells (Tracy), Jessie Seguin (Jon), Michael Stark (Erika), Heather Malave (Gustavo), Melissa Fronhofer (Dan), Joshua Updike (Kelly), Rhianna Hendrix (Tristan), Natalie Moddisett (Mike), Elizabeth Leonard (Craig), Lauren Cutter, and Lexi Cutter, seventeen great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a sister-in-law Joan Osborne.

Friends may call from 1-3pm on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main Street, South Glens Falls, NY 12803.

A Funeral Service will be conducted at 3pm following calling hours at the funeral home.

Burial will be conducted at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations in Marlyn’s name to The St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105, or to the American Heart Association, Northeastern Region, 4 Atrium Dr., Suite 100, Albany, NY 12205.
