Steven J. Stimpson Sr, 66, a lifelong resident of Fort Edward, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at home after a lengthy battle with a neurological disorder.

Born in Glens Falls on November 12, 1952, he was the son of the late Walter and Loretta (Rivers) Stimpson Sr.

Steven was a graduate of Fort Edward High School Class of ’71 and worked for Scott Paper/Irving Tissue for more than 40 years before he retired due to his illness. He was very proud that he was inducted into the Greenjackets Football Hall of Fame in 2011

On April 16, 2004 he married Ann Simmons and enjoyed the time they spent together. Ann’s love for Steve showed in the great care he received throughout his illness. He also enjoyed his days when he could sit by the pool working on his tan.

Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his first wife, Sandra (Fisher) Stimpson, his brother, Walter Stimpson and brother-in-law, Alan Gilman.

Left to cherish his memory besides his wife Ann include his son, Steven Stimpson Jr. (Jenny Cooper) and Carrie (Stimpson) Tyler (Brad); his grandchildren, Cassandra Stimpson, Bradie and Jase Tyler; his siblings, Sandra Donovan (Richard), Edward Stimpson (Debbie), Peggy Deyoe, Kevin Stimpson (Michele), Karen Cozzens (Mike) and Mark Stimpson (Amy) as well as his mother-in-law, Sharon Simmons and several nieces, nephews, cousins, his special “Favorite” niece, Ariana Stimpson and his good friend, Steve Carlisle, who showed what true friendship means.

At Steve’s request there will be no calling hours or formal Funeral Services.

A celebration of his life will be from 4 to 7pm on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at the Idle Hour Club, Rogers Island, Fort Edward.

The family would like to thank the staff at Fort Hudson Home Health, Dr. Gara, and Dr. Celmins for providing extraordinary care of Steven throughout his illness.
