Chester B. Tillotson, 88, passed away Friday November 2, 2018 at Glens Falls Hospital.

Chester Brooks Tillotson, known to most of his family and friends as Brooks, was born in Fort Edward on September 13, 1930. His parents, Byron C. and Victoria P. Tillotson lived their whole married life at 85 Broadway, Fort Edward. Brooks loved music and his career as a professional french horn musician was impressive. Brooks did his undergraduate work at the University of Vermont, studied at Juliard in New York City and spent four years in the Navy Band, stationed in Honolulu and San Diego. His professional career was spent in New York City playing with a variety of organizations including the New York Philharmonic, numerous Broadway shows including Les Miserables and Cabaret, The Miss America pageant and hundreds of commercial gigs. After his retirement from the New York City music scene he settled in Fort Edward and continued his musical contributions to the area by playing with the Utica, Schenectady, Glens Falls and Albany Symphonies. He participated with pit orchestras for a number of high school musicals.

Brooks is survived by his son Christopher and daughter in-law Virginia. Christopher is an accomplished french horn player in his own right, having been a member of the Air Force Band for 13 years. Brooks is also survived by his sisters Joan Tillotson and Sandy Norton.

At Chester’s request there will be no calling hours.

A private service will be held at Gerald B.H. Solomon Cemetery at the convenience of the family. .
